This is a picture of me getting off the airplane in Denver for a surprise trip! I kind of forgot to take a picture in the airport and on the flight, so this is just a picture I took as I was walking up the ramp from the plane to the airport :)

Let me explain.

Sunday (yesterday,) before church, I had an interview with my bishop- the last interview with him to get an interview with my Stake President, then submit my mission papers to the church!

I walk in to his office and chat with him for a bit. Then he says, "So, Hayley, I've got some bad news."

"Bad news?" This statement made me a little nervous. I was more than eager to finally get my papers turned in after a couple weeks of working on them (which in fact, was a couple weeks too many!).

"Well," he said, "It's kind of a good problem to have..." My bishop then explained to me that as of Saturday (the day before this interview took place), the stake had about 200 missionary applications waiting for the Stake President to go through and interview for. The Stake President is the only man able to take care of these interviews. Being a working man, he could commit to completing 20 missionary applications a week. Do the math. It would take at least 10 weeks for me to get an interview with the Stake President.... I won't even be in the ward in 10 weeks! My contract expires in
6! And that doesn't even count the idea of just having to wait. Not for my call, but for the interview to then get my call :P Awesome...

Then my bishop proposed an idea. He suggested that I just complete my papers through my home ward. He recognized how eager I was to get them turned in, and he knew that the better route for me to take would be to go through my Highlands Ranch Stake. Genius! I then proceeded to coordinate with my parentals. In the matter of like thirty minutes (maybe even twenty), my parents had talked to both Bishop Gibb and President Walker, coordinated an appointment, prepared to have my records switched back to Denver for like a day, and my Mom had scheduled me a flight to go out to Denver for a day to get the papers finished. I was on a plane the next day (today).

It's time to finally get these suckers finished up and sent in!!

I am a responsible citizen of the United States of America! I filled out my mail-in ballot, and it is ready to be sent tomorrow morning!

I voted for Romney... sadly, Obama won. But hey, that's what's great about our nation- we can vote. We have that freedom, security, and therefore, responsibility. The wonderful thing about both of the candidates in the race for the Presidency is that they both want what is best for America.

I may not like Obama, but he is now the President of the United States, and it is my responsibility and privilege to support him in that. It is my firm belief that the Founding Fathers never meant for politics to divide our country. Instead, I believe they wanted it to improve our country. The hatred and frustration that I hear stemming from politics is sad and rather unnecessary. While we may be divided in beliefs and parties (Republican, Democrat, Green, Libertarian, etc), we are still one nation. One diverse, unique and therefore beautiful nation, together. Under God. While Obama is the President, it is even more important to remember that God is the ultimate King. We are in good hands.

I am proud to be an American.
I thank God for all who sacrifice, and have sacrificed, for me to have what I have today.
Freedom doesn't come free.
I am deeply indebted to those who were more than willing to make that sacrifice for me.

Today was the day.... Charlie the Cilantro Plant officially died.... I think he got sick (aka, he wasn't getting enough sunlight in our basement/dungeon apartment.... he wilted rather depressingly). So I dumped him in the random foliage outside my door. There is his tag.

You will never be forgotten, Charlie. You were a wonderful Cilantro Plant.

I drove up to Salt Lake this morning to visit Papa and Nana for a bit! Papa had a hip-replacement surgery the day before, so I came up to say hi and see how they were doing :) It was lovely to visit with them!

These are the wonderful, beautiful, awesome lady referees I work with! They are great :)
(Me, Ashlynn, Megan, Kenzie, Makenzie, Cassie and Jessica :))

I hadn't eaten dinner yet, and John was hungry... so we pooled our resources and threw together a great taco salad! It was super delicious :)

When Lauren got back from her date, we all watched Avengers together (actually, I slept through it... :P But still...)

 Happy Halloween! :)

I don't really know what I was for Halloween... I kind of forgot about figuring out an outfit until the night before when I was getting ready for bed... so I just decided it was a good excuse to wear my cool nerd glasses for the day :)

John and I getting ready to party!

Leaving the Stake Dance to go to John's volleyball game with Jessica and Alyssa and Amanda and others :)

Ultimate Game! Last game of the season!
(Me, Geoff, Megan, Katie, Lindsay, Mindy, Nate, Colin, Chris)

We lost our game.... sad....

I got a cavity filled today.... my mouth/jaw felt funny :P

Lauren made cornbread today, and it was absolutely delicious! I made some honey butter to go with it :) As you can see, the middle pieces are our favorites...

Sunday, October 28, 2012

So.... a few days ago, I noticed something in the corner of my windshield that looked super gross. I concluded it was some sort of bug. This is a picture. It's super fuzzy because I was too afraid to get too close :P EW.

I nominated John to remove the disgusting thing. He discovered it was a dragonfly that was trying to climb up into my car between the dashboard and the windshield and got stuck and died there. This thing was easily the size of my middle finger. It was pretty big and hugely absolutely disgusting. John thought it was cool.... :P

Mason and Jordan invited me and a couple other people over to their place for lunch! Apparently, its a Halloween/Fall tradition for Mason to prepare Pumpkin Stew and Mexican Dead Bread for the group. They made a ton so I was one of the few invited over to share the experience. It was delicious! I was very impressed with Mason's skills. (that's Dooley in the background)

Lauren and I had John and Scott over for dinner! We made a Blackened Chicken with Cilantro Lime Rice and Avacado dressing dish we found on Pinterest. It was absolutely delicious :)

It was followed by card games and magic tricks. I lost every single one of them... :P

Went on a blind lunch-date to Zupas today after work! It was delicious, and the date was pretty good :) His name was Tyler- he was a freshman at UVU and a girl in my ward set me up with him.

After the date, I went and played soccer with by Peruvian friend Cesar (aka Papi or Fancy Feet) and a random group of people. We played for 2.5 hours! It was the second time I had ever played soccer and it was a blast :) I want to get better. Needless to say, my legs were pretty sore the next day!

Went on a huge group date with Scott tonight! A bunch of his friends from back home planned it. We played extreme musical chairs, messed around with some noodle-swords and foam footballs, and had an absolute BLAST! It was a really fun group :) And no, I'm not even going to try and go through to name all these people.... :P

Afterwards, we went and hung out at one of the guys' houses and had home-made apple pie for dessert (with Tillamook Huckleberry ice cream... HEAVEN). His family had a mini band room downstairs, and we rocked out to some tunes and played ping-pong (I won Around The World, by the way. Papa would be so proud :))

Then we went and played 4-Square, which none of us had played since elementary school! Luckily, my skills came back quickly. It was super fun! ....until the cops came by and told us to quiet down. So we had to play in silence the rest of the night.... which was even more hilarious :)

Scott and I

I had to go to my first doctor's appointment for my mission papers today. Oh joy... :P I got poked and prodded and had to pee in a little cup! I'm pointing to the site of my blood draw with the arm that got poked with some sort of TB Test I think? I was really worried about the blood draw (I told the guy I was really nervous and then felt super stupid when he asked what my major was.... Nursing... haha bet ya couldn't guess that one!) But the blood draw was actually a great deal more pleasant than the TB Test was. Seriously. It was like a walk in the park! I'd take blood draw to any other shot ever :)

Lauren, John, and I made Pumpkin chocolate chip cookies.

Lauren took a picture of me dancing in the kitchen. I was a little hyper tonight...

John, Scott and I adventuring around Provo! Tried to find dances and parties, but found nothing we wanted, so eventually we ended up eating some appetizers at Applebee's for half-price

Scott and I have matching Vans. What bosses...

Matching shoes! ...except mine are way cooler... and way smaller....

Farmer's Market adventure with John! I bundled up cause it was super cold and a good excuse to wear my winter stuff :)
